Hello, it’s been a long 3 years of hiding under a rock. I created this blog in 2018 and since then I really had to take a step back from my blog and do some reflecting on what showing up for myself means for me and what is the best way to go about achieving that. I don’t have all the answers yet but I’m doing the work and accepting that I am a work in progress. Cheers to new beginnings and showing up authentically!
Happy to share that within my time away I became a mother—the greatest role that I could ever imagine becoming. I never thought I had the capacity to love someone as much as I love my son. This journey has been a whirlwind of unconditional love, joy, postpartum challenges, adjusting, deep reflecting, shedding old layers, embracing new experiences and letting go. To mark the beginning of this new chapter, a mom and toddler photoshoot was the first order of business! Here are 5 tips of how I made our photoshoot a success.
Below are 5 tips to make sure your toddler’s photoshoot is super fun and memorable.
1. No expectations.
As someone who’s big on creativity and super detail-oriented, I really wanted our photoshoot to be identical to a few of my inspo shots. But let’s be real, with a toddler the unexpected is…expected. Removing the expectations allowed me to be more flexible, patient and focus on the experience versus the outcome. In the end, our photos came out better than I could have imagined with authentic and wholesome images.
2. Make it fun.
Baby boy is currently obsessed with monster trucks so I bought a few toys, snacks and even played his favorite music to keep him entertained. It was so rewarding to see his personality shine through plus the toys ended up being a fun addition.
3. Dress comfy.
My goal for this shoot was comfy casual. A super glam shoot would have been great but between his teething, refusal to keep his head scarf on and my anxiety, I wanted us to be able to run around and have a good time without obsessing over wardrobe.
4. Choose the right photographer.
I can’t express how wonderful our experience was with our photographer. She created such a pleasant environment and kept the mood playful and fun the entire time…perfect for a busy body toddler. Baby boy warmed up to her immediately! 10/10 recommend. Book her here.
5. Stick to his or her schedule.
Listen it’s his world and I’m just living in it, ok! We opted for an early afternoon appointment to avoid the naptime crankiness. I couldn’t have picked a better time. He was super cooperative and in a good mood.
I hope these tips help you to create monumental memories with your little one. Feel free to share any additonal tips that make your mom and toddler shoots seamless!
