Let’s face it. The hairstyle pool can be limited when consistently working out especially if your hair is natural. My biggest struggle as a natural girl is keeping my hair healthy. Most of the time you have to choose between cute hair or going to the gym. I refuse to choose! Below are some new additions I have added to my beauty hair routine before heading to the gym.

Juggling mom life and the gym, I have a few must-have needs for my gym hairstyles.

I need low maintenance hairstyles because I don’t have a lot of free time to dedicate to constantly style my hair. Keeping my hair away from my face is a must because of the heavy sweating. Wet hair on a wet forehead–absolutely not! Since I’m on a hair growth journey, I need hairstyles that maintain moisture and promote healthy hair.

The Ponytail: A Classic Gym Hairstyle

Single ponytails, double ponytails, or a slck back ponytail with a hat are popular hairstyles for the gym. However, frequent ponytails can cause tension around the hairline and breakage. Because of this, I don’t do them too often. My favorite way to combat this are these silk scrunchies which are super gentle on the hair. I also love these coil hair ties which help grip thick hair without the breakage.

Protective Styles: Protect Your Curls and Look Great

I love a good protective style. If I could keep them in forever, I would! Protective styles are so convenient and it’s just something about not having to worry about doing your hair. My favorite way to prevent an itchy scalp while wearing a protective style is this serum by CanviiyWhen my scalp is sweaty I like to use this dry shampoo in between wash days.

Mini Twists: The Versatile and Easy to Manage Hairstyle

Coming in second after protective styles would for sure be mini twists! I chopped all my hair off a little over a year ago and this style has been perfect for maintaining length and moisture. I usually keep them in for 2-3 weeks and once I remove them, hello twist out! I love how I can get multiple looks out of this style. I’m no professional but this mirror has helped me to part and see the back of my hair easily.

I’m excited to keep exploring natural hairstyles as I continue my fitness journey. Share your ideas for gym-friendly natural hairstyles in the comments below!
