I believe the best investment I have ever made for myself is being intentional about my fitness journey. My relationship with the gym within the last 7-8 years has been purely vain and pretty inconsistent. Becoming adamant about it as a 30-something-year-old mom has revealed it to be so much deeper than that…so much deeper that I have gone daily for the last 2.5 years! Thanks to genes, I have always had a naturally small frame so I didn’t believe I had to work too hard when it came to exercise. However, I discovered 5 habits that I practice daily that have helped me to stay consistent with my health and fitness goals.
1. Realizing it’s all mental.
Nothing else and no one else matters. Pushing yourself to your limits, discovering the strength that you didn’t know you had, and the required dedication. 9 times out of 10, you’re stronger than you think. I am naturally disciplined, but there’s something about consistently showing up for myself daily regardless of what it takes to make that possible. I’ve connected with women who are 45 & up to 80 years old and still go to the gym daily. What a life goal!
2. Humbling myself.
We live in a society where immediate results are expected. In fitness, immediate…not so much. Realizing that the key to seeing and maintaining the results you desire in fitness, patience, and consistency is required. Even after going daily for a few years, I still have so much work to do. Understanding this and accepting it has allowed me to give myself so much grace.
3. Keep it cute.
I am a visual person so I need all the aesthetics and things! I noticed putting effort into my appearance before going to the gym keeps me looking forward to going daily. Some of my favorite athletic brands are GymShark, Alo Yoga, and Oner Active. These brands have amazing pieces that are comfortable and durable for frequent washes. I also love cute gym accessories. My favorites are UPPPER and Nike.
4. It’s not temporary its forever baby.
Incorporating fitness into my life as a lifestyle commitment rather than a temporary season changed everything. A lifestyle commitment doesn’t only mean working out consistently but also aligning my diet goals with my fitness goals. Experimenting with my meals and trying new recipes helped expose me to new flavors and combinations that will help me reach my goals! This mentality ignited a passion to push me every day.
5. Make it fun.
One thing about the commitment it’s important to avoid becoming boring and routine. I don’t do the same workouts every week. I follow a plan that switches things up and I adjust accordingly. I have accountability partners and we are always trying new things. I also try not to put so much pressure on myself and prioritize my rest days! My favorite fun thing to do is watch a TV show while on the Stairmaster.
I hope these 5 tips not only inspire you to prioritize your fitness journey but to stay consistent with your health and fitness goals.
